DRDL — Design Research and Development Laboratory — is the independent design studio of Jan Guntermann, a graphic designer based in Wiesbaden, Germany. Established in 2012, the studio builds on over 20 years of freelance experience working with clients across streetwear, sport, lifestyle and beyond. The focus is on textile prints, collection graphics, typography and visual identities. Cultural and historical references become the starting point for original artwork and cohesive graphic concepts, shaped around each brand’s character. The work spans expressive illustrations, photographic collage and bold typographic compositions, as well as emblems, logos and repeat patterns. From initial research and concept development to final production artwork, projects combine exploration with practical knowledge of materials, printing and embroidery. Whether designing a single graphic or developing the visual language of an entire collection, the aim is to create distinctive work that translates naturally across products and applications. Beyond apparel, DRDL works with businesses, cultural organisations and institutions on branding, editorial and graphic design projects.
